Clever Closings
Wire & EMD Protection

$2M of protection on every transaction.

Wire fraud is the single largest financial threat in real estate. We don't treat it as an add-on. Identity verification and wire risk assessment run on every closing.

Three layers, one transaction

Security at every step.

01

Identity verification

Every party to the transaction is verified against public records and a valid government-issued ID. You know who's on the other side of the deal before money ever moves.

02
LOW RISK

Wire risk assessment

Before any wire goes out, seller and payoff instructions are evaluated against a multivariable fraud-risk model. Anomalies are flagged and high-risk transactions stop before they go through.

03
$

Wire fraud insurance

Eligible wires assessed as low risk are protected by up to $2 million in wire fraud insurance, underwritten by Lloyd's of London. The coverage is built in. You never buy it separately.

Tell the difference

Red flags vs. real instructions.

Red flags

  • Email saying instructions changed at the last minute.
  • Pressure to act immediately or "lose the deal."
  • Sender domain looks off by one character.
  • Reply-to differs from the sender address.
  • Wire destination is in a different state or country than expected.

Real instructions

  • Call our office at the number on cleverclosings.com.
  • Read routing and account back digit-by-digit to a real person.
  • Initiate the wire at your bank or via secured banking portal.
  • Save the bank's confirmation number and reference.
  • Confirm receipt with us within hours, not days.

FAQ

Common questions.

How does the $2M wire fraud coverage work?

Wires that pass our risk assessment and meet eligibility criteria are protected by up to $2 million in coverage on each transaction, underwritten by Lloyd's of London. Coverage applies to qualifying losses caused by fraudulent wire diversion. Your closer will confirm eligibility on your specific transaction.

What if my client gets a suspicious email asking them to change wire instructions?

They should not act on it. Wire instructions are sent once. If they get an email saying instructions changed, that's a fraud attempt. Tell them to call our office directly using the number from cleverclosings.com — never a number from the suspicious email.

Is the EMD covered too?

Yes. Every Mobile EMD submission is encrypted end-to-end via Stripe and tracked in the portal. Identity verification runs on the borrower at first login, and the funds settle directly into escrow without any wire instructions changing hands by email.
